If you want to find a safe place to sort through lifes challenges, emotional confusion, anxiety, depression, grief, to find deeper meaning and discover lifes joy; if you want to enter into a caring relationship that provides genuiness and empathy; if you want to reflect on and take action to change your life – please give me a call.
I take an integrative and depth approach to psychotherapy teaching you to 1) understand your temperment and personality, 2) learn psychological and contemplative skills for emotional and behavioral self regulation, 3) connect with a deeper sense of purpose and meaning in your life.
I view symptoms as messages from our psyches and bodies that need to be attended to. When symptoms are not overwhelming, they provide the impetus for balance, growth and change in our lives.
In psychotherapy sessions, you learn to identify your personality, your strategies for dealing with stressful events and your underlying motivations. If you think of your personality as a software program, you get the chance to update what was once adapted to fit an older computer.
The process of understanding yourself and your lifes situations in a nonjudgmental atmosphere brings compassion and allows for change in a natural way.
Skills are taught to manage lifes suffering in more effective ways and to discover greater joy. Some of the skills include: defending against the inner critic, meditation and the building of the inner witness, body focusing, and increased capacity for empathy towards self and others.
In couples counseling you learn to accept and respect yourself and your partner, appreciating the strength that is gained when conflict is worked through in a nonreactive fashion. Through negotiating conflicts, truthfully standing up for yourself and staying in contact, deeper intimacy is gained.
Session are offered in person, online via Skype (if you have a computer with a camera and high speed internet), or by telephone.
